Ottawa’s very own metalcore band, Southpaw, came out rocking Thursday night at Brass Monkey as an opener for the The New Reign Northern Invasion Tour, headlined by Born of Osiris. Since their EP release last December, they have been drawing in crowds within their hometown. With their most recent show, they came ready to showcase their talent and hard style to a large crowd.
The venue was buzzing, fans eager to get the show started to see the rising talent of Ottawa. Southpaw opened their set with a mixture of new and old, showing their devotion and talent in the metalcore genre. Vocalist Curtis Ellwood garnered audience attention through his stage presence, focusing on getting the crowd moving to the quick beat. Ellwood showcased the new, and unreleased material that the band was working on to the delight of the fans. As the new songs started, fans gave the band amazing reactions, despite not knowing the lyrics. Southpaw put on an energetic show, definitely readying the crowd to the main performers.
Even though there are many metalcore bands on the rise in Ottawa, Southpaw has separated themselves from the rest; proving to the crowds that their enthusiastic performance and their urge to showcase their new content in their hometown is going to continue throughout the future.
